QEEG based rTMS Therapy and Training
In our Nijmegen clinic (Brainclinics Treatment B.V.) we currently offer rTMS therapy for Depression. We have developed our own QEEG-based way of personalizing rTMS treatment in Depression (Personalized Medicine) and will be further developing this and publishing on this method. If you are interested in being trained in applying this QEEG based rTMS treatment in your own clinic, do not hesitate to contact us.
What is rTMS?
rTMS (Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation) is a noninvasive method to excite neurons in the brain. The excitation is caused by weak electric currents induced in the tissue by rapidly changing magnetic fields (electromagnetic induction). By doing this, brain activity can be triggered or modulated without the need for surgery. In research and diagnosis, TMS is a very powerful tool for mapping how the brain works (brain mapping) and has been shown to be an efficacious noninvasive treatment for a host of disorders, including depression.
rTMS was first used in 1985 by Anthony Baker at the University of Sheffield as a neurodiagnostic tool, for a history of rTMS also see history. In research it was used to help understand the function of different parts of the brain. There have been a lot of studies to investigate rTMS as a treatment for major depression. Also see our first results with QEEG based rTMS for depression.
